Black henna powders are toxic because they contain para phenyle diamine which can break the skin out in lesions. We do carry a safe black henna and other colors for the skin. None of our products contain para phenyle di amine Most designs of henna are very intricate, where do you begin? Begin in the middle, of circular designs, and simple work your way out. Break down the design, what every you do to one side do immediately to the other. This avoids getting lost in the design.
Black henna In Africa and in Medieval Persia, black henna is considered the most beautiful. In India, red henna is more auspicious. Both come from the same plant, but are obtained in slightly different ways. If you have absolutely fresh henna powder, and apply it in very hot weather, with an overnight wrap, to your palms and soles, the color may go nearly black with no extra effort

Fair hands decorated with mehendi have arrested the attention of lovers and inspired the poets for ages. The tiny green leaves of mehendi give a deep red colour when crushed while perfume is derived from its flowers.
Mehendi is also an excellent conditioner for hair and used to colour premature grey hair. Mehendi has a cooling property and helps to cool the body in summers. The red colour of mehendi is a symbol of love. The darker the colour, deeper is the love of the maiden for her lover. Applying mehendi is an important ritual on Karva Chauth when married women in North India fast for the long life of their husbands.
It’s in the intricate designs that take hours to create, the deep crimson colour, which shines clearly on the skin, the earthy aroma that fills the air. Fashion is a funny thing. It allows an age-old tradition to suddenly become trendy.

African mehndi – This style is mainly bold. No fine lines or fill-in are used but it’s still extremely different from Arbi mehndi. How, you ask? Well these designs consist of geometric shapes and figures, also many lines and dots. It is very simple, but very pretty.

Pakistani mehndi – This one is one of my all time favorites. It is the most detailed and intricate, as well as, the most time consuming and exhausting design to produce for the artist. Pakistani mehndi is known for it’s detailed and fine fill-ins. If you really want to question an artist’s abilities, ask them to produce an incredibly beautiful Pakistani design. Of course it is really expensive, but it’s worth every penny. These designs are famous for being modeled by dhulanain (Pakistani brides), as well as close female family members and friends. Completing ONE SIDE of A HAND may take 2 hours at the MINIMUM.

Arbi mehndi - This style tends to be less detailed and intricate. Don’t get me wrong, its still very beautiful. Instead of having fill-ins it is just colored in boldly. Arbi designs don’t necessarly cover your hands or feet all the way. They tend to be “kula kula” which means open or flowing. Many popular Arbi designs are vines and leaves with beautiful flowers. This makes it an excellent and perfect candidate, if you want to have a bail going down your arm or leg.

Pregnant Moroccan women in their seventh month seek out well-respected henna practitioners called hannayas in order to have certain symbols painted on their ankle, which will then be encircled with a corresponding amulet. The henna and the amulet are meant to protect both the mother and child through birth. Once the baby is born and the umbilical cord severed, a plaster of henna, water, and flour is placed on the newborn’s belly button in order to ensure beauty and wealth.
